Dumb it Down

The world is “Dumbed Down”. We are frivolous, fickle, dependent followers who cannot think for ourselves. We are feed music that is nonsensical and make us bob our heads and dance. The movies we watch don’t make much sense either, the majority do not provoke any sort of thought but play on our simpler emotions. We are getting stupider by the day. We do not read anymore. Who reads now a days? Not with BBM, Social Media and the Internet. Books are a thing of the past! Reading is not cool and everyone wants to be cool…. Right? We all want to fit in. No one wants to be an individual so we all dress alike, talk the same and act the same way. We are mindless drones. We are all property.  Not me. Not me.

"G they told me to come down cousin, but I flatly refuse I ain't dumb down nothing." -- Lupe Fiasco.

Some people say the things I write about are too complex, my thoughts and ideas are too much to think about and understand, they say I need to lighten up, they say I overthink, they say I’m uptight and boring. They say I’m not like a typical 24 year old, I should be out partying and having a good time. “Enjoying life” they say… Well I am enjoying life to its fullest just not in the typical way. Not like everyone else my age and boy am I having a great time! I love my life! It’s a gift… They want me to come down to their level, to think like them. Not going to happen. Never no way!

I refuse to “Dumb it Down” I refuse to close my eyes, my ears and my mouth to the things going on around me. In fact my senses are at an all-time high! I’m always on the alert. Always thinking, constantly learning always speaking my mind! I will never stop! My heart is permanently set on the Truth because the Truth is the way to freedom. I am free and I intend to stay that way.

I refuse to “Dumb it Down”

Take in this Lupe Fiasco song of the same title of this post. It’s confusing to the closed ear, but if you’re open to listen you’ll understand the meaning behind it. Was blown away the very first time I heard this song years ago and it is even more relevant today sadly.
